Concrete Elegance: Museums and Galleries

Wednesday 22 September, 6.30 - 8.00pm

Oriel Mostyn Gallery, Llandudno: EWA Architects
New gallery spaces were required to enhance and expand the exhibition spaces. Ease of exhibition set-up, storage and changeover was a key part of the new building brief.

The dramatic architectural feature was the insertion of the tall 'concrete tube'. This space was the link , connecting the new gallery spaces and leading to the main entry into the building. Its purpose is to draw people into the gallery spaces and negotiate the floor level changes.

Medieval and Renaissance Collection, V&A: MUMA
Through a series of discreet interventions, the refurbished building has created a suite of new galleries to house some 1800 artefacts from the V&A's renowned Medieval and Renaissance collection.

The new Daylit Gallery and circulation hub are at the heart of the scheme, conceived as an informal top-lit gallery space. The choice of materials, construction approach and restoration, including a fine crafted insitu concrete staircase, that form the modern interventions have been carefully considered to compliment the historic fabric of the building.

Chaired by David Bennett.
Sponsored by The Concrete Centre and
Toureen Mangan Construction Ltd.

This event is free to attend, but booking is essential
