Who do you think you are kidding Mr Healey?

In what may well prove to be one of the last acts of a cynical government, we expect the changes to Part L and F of the Building Regulations to be laid before Parliament by mid March 2010.

The intention is to force the changes through for implementation in October despite the advice from Industry that delays in CLG mean it is now too late to meet this deadline. This is due to the requirement to get party wall data independently accredited through third parties which have yet to be approved.

If that was not enough of an affront to an already battered industry we now learn that the intention is to introduce a flat rather than an aggregate approach to the new regulations.

At the outset of a time consuming and costly consultation we were briefed that Mr Healey preferred the flat approach. We naively believed that the majority view would prevail in a democracy. Sadly this will not be the case as Mr Healey has chosen to ignore the clear call for an aggregate approach.  In doing so he has completely undermined the process of consultation.

It is little wonder that the vast majority of the public have lost all faith and trust in politicians. The time for spin is over, the electorate is crying out for honesty and common sense and access to worthwhile employment.
